TRON Energy Supported Wallets: Which Apps Use It

Search for help with Trust Wallet and TRON Energy and the top forum reply tells you to move your funds to TronLink. You don't need to. TRON Energy supported wallets are not a short list of special apps: Energy is a property of your TRON address, so any self-custody wallet that signs a transfer from that address spends it. What differs between wallets is how they show it, what their send screens ask for, and whether a built-in fee feature routes around it.

Which wallets support TRON Energy

Every self-custody TRON wallet uses Energy that sits on its address. The network, not the app, decides how a USDT transfer is paid: it takes Energy from the sending account first and burns TRX only for the shortfall. A wallet has no way to skip your Energy when it broadcasts a normal transfer.

That makes the question "is my wallet supported" mostly a question about the address. Three facts follow from it:

  • Energy follows the address, not the app. Import the same recovery phrase into a different wallet and the Energy is still there.
  • Each account is separate. If your wallet holds three TRON accounts, Energy delegated to account 1 does nothing for account 2.
  • Custody decides everything. If you don't hold the keys (an exchange account), you don't control which address sends, so your Energy can't apply.

A standard USDT transfer uses about 65,000 Energy, or about 131,000 when the recipient has never held USDT. With no Energy, the network burns 6.5 TRX or about 13.1 TRX at the current 100 SUN rate. If you want the background on how the resource works, start with what TRON Energy is and why USDT needs it.

TRON Energy supported wallets compared

Rented or staked Energy works in all of the self-custody wallets below; the differences are in the send flow. This is the practical view, by wallet, of what to expect when Energy is already on your address.

TronLinkYesThe separate GasFree wallet does not use your Energy
Trust WalletYesBuilt-in auto Energy rental can add its own charge

The one row that says "No" is the row people get wrong most often. The next sections cover the three wallets behind the secondary questions people search for, then the cases where rented Energy does nothing.

TronLink uses Energy on your address automatically, and its fee estimate drops to zero or near zero when you have enough. It is TRON's own wallet, so the send screen reads the account's resources before it estimates anything. With 65,000 Energy available, a standard USDT transfer shows no TRX burn for Energy. You may still see a fraction of a TRX for Bandwidth if your 600 free daily Bandwidth points are spent.

Most searches for "tron energy tronlink" come down to one trap: the GasFree wallet. TronLink ships it as a separate account type: you sign a permit, a service provider submits the transfer, and the fee comes out of your USDT. Because someone else broadcasts the transaction, Energy delegated to your regular address plays no part. If you rent Energy, send from the regular TronLink account. Our breakdown of TronLink wallet fees and GasFree pricing has the per-transfer numbers.

Trust Wallet and TRON Energy

Trust Wallet uses delegated or staked Energy like any other self-custody wallet; the "it ignores Energy" complaints come from two specific situations. Trust Wallet tracks Energy and Bandwidth for staked TRX, and the network applies Energy from your address whichever app signs.

So, does Trust Wallet use TRON Energy? Yes. The complaints trace back to these cases:

  1. The Energy is short. You rented 65,000, but the recipient has never held USDT and the transfer needs about 131,000. The network uses your 65,000 and burns about 6.6 TRX for the rest. It looks like the wallet ignored your Energy. It didn't.
  2. The Energy went to a different account. Trust Wallet makes it easy to hold several wallets. Copy the receive address from the exact account you will send from before you rent.

Since late 2025, trust wallet tron energy handling has a third layer: a built-in rental integration that rents Energy and Bandwidth for you when it is cheaper than burning TRX, and shows the total on the confirmation screen. If you already have enough Energy on the address, the confirmation screen should show no Energy cost. If it still shows a rental charge or several TRX, your Energy is short or on another account, so stop and check before you confirm.

Ledger and USDT TRC20

A Ledger device uses Energy on its TRON address, but the Ledger Wallet app (formerly Ledger Live) is the least forgiving place to send from. Ledger's support documentation recommends keeping at least 100 TRX in the account for ledger usdt trc20 transfers, warning that the transfer will otherwise fail with an OUT OF ENERGY error. Users also report the send screen asking for a TRX balance of around 50 TRX before it lets them continue.

That guidance is written for accounts with no Energy, where the network has to burn TRX. With 65,000 Energy delegated to the Ledger address, a standard transfer burns nothing for Energy. If the app still blocks you on its balance check, connect the same device to TronLink or TronScan and sign there. Ledger documents both routes, and the key never leaves the device either way.

Two more Ledger specifics:

  • No staking in the app. Ledger Wallet does not support Stake 2.0, so staking TRX for your own Energy goes through TronScan or TronLink with the device connected. Renting needs only the address.
  • Activation first. A brand-new Ledger TRON account needs at least 0.1 TRX before tokens show. Delegation also works only on an activated address.

Where rented Energy does not help

Rented Energy only helps transfers that your own address signs and broadcasts. Four setups break that condition, and they account for most "I paid for Energy and nothing changed" reports.

Exchange accounts. Your Binance or OKX deposit address belongs to the exchange. When you withdraw, the exchange sends from its own hot wallet and charges a flat withdrawal fee it sets itself. Renting Energy for a tron energy exchange wallet deposit address changes nothing: receiving USDT costs the recipient nothing anyway, and the withdrawal never touches that address.

Fee-in-USDT wallets. GasFree accounts and Tether Wallet let you pay the network cost in USDT. In a relayed GasFree transfer, the provider's Energy pays, not yours. Tether Wallet has not documented whether Energy on your address reduces its USDT fee, so check the fee screen with and without Energy before you rely on it.

The wrong address. Energy delegated to a typo, an old account, or your exchange deposit address stays there. Delegation can't be redirected after it lands.

An expired rental. A 1-hour rental expires an hour after delegation. If you rent, get distracted and send two hours later, the Energy is gone and the wallet burns TRX as if you never rented.

Before you send: a 30-second check

Open the wallet's confirmation screen and read the fee: with enough Energy, the Energy part of the fee is zero. If it shows about 6.5 or 13 TRX, the Energy is missing, short, or on another account. You can also confirm the exact available Energy and when a delegation expires; our guide on how to check your TRON Energy balance shows where each wallet and Tronscan display it.

A practical shortcut for sizing a rented energy wallet top-up: the TRX figure on the send screen tells you how much Energy you need. A 6.5 TRX fee means about 65,000 Energy; about 13 TRX means about 131,000.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Trust Wallet use TRON Energy?

Yes. Trust Wallet is a self-custody wallet, and the TRON network applies Energy on the sending address no matter which app signs. If Trust Wallet still shows a TRX fee after you rented Energy, the transfer probably needs about 131,000 Energy (new recipient) or the Energy went to another account in the app.

Do I need TRX if I have Energy?

Keep a few TRX. Energy covers the smart-contract part of a USDT transfer, but each transfer also uses about 345 Bandwidth. The first 600 Bandwidth per day are free; after that, the network burns a fraction of a TRX. Holding 5 to 10 TRX also leaves room to pay for the next rental.

Does switching wallet apps remove my Energy?

No. Energy belongs to the TRON address. Restore the same recovery phrase in TronLink, Trust Wallet or any other self-custody wallet and the delegated or staked Energy is still available, with the same expiry. Only move a recovery phrase into wallets you trust.

Can I rent Energy for my Binance address?

You can, but it does nothing. An exchange deposit address receives funds, and receiving USDT costs nothing. Withdrawals are sent from the exchange's own wallets with a flat fee set by the exchange, so Energy on your deposit address is never used.

Why does Ledger say I need 100 TRX?

Ledger's guidance assumes the account has no Energy and must burn TRX for every USDT transfer. With enough Energy delegated to the Ledger address, a standard transfer burns no TRX for Energy. If the Ledger Wallet app still blocks the send, sign through TronLink or TronScan with the same device.

Does MetaMask support TRON Energy?

Yes. MetaMask added native TRON support in January 2026, including TRX, TRC-20 tokens and staking for Energy. Energy rented to your MetaMask TRON address is used like in any other self-custody wallet.

Which setup fits you

If you send USDT a few times a month from TronLink, Trust Wallet, MetaMask or Ledger, keep your wallet. Rent Energy to the exact sending address shortly before you send, then check the confirmation screen. Buying TRON Energy for your wallet address for an hour typically costs 2.6 to 3.9 TRX against 6.5 TRX burned.

If you hold USDT on an exchange, Energy is not your lever: withdraw to a self-custody wallet first if you plan to send repeatedly. If you hold zero TRX and want to keep it that way, a fee-in-USDT wallet is the convenience option, at a higher price per transfer.
