You open Coinbase to buy TRX for your USDT fees and find it marked "not tradable." What Coinbase does offer is a bridged TRX that lives on Base, a different blockchain, and it can't land in a TronLink wallet as is. So where to buy TRX if you need it on TRON itself? Any exchange that withdraws on the TRON network. On the cheapest ones, moving TRX to your wallet costs 1 TRX. On the worst, the same withdrawal costs 15-30 TRX.
This guide compares exchanges by what matters to someone who holds USDT on TRON: TRX withdrawal fee, minimum withdrawal, and whether the coin leaves on the right network. Fees were checked on 4 October 2026, with TRX at about $0.335.
Where to buy TRX: the short answer
Where to buy TRX: Bybit, KuCoin, MEXC, CoinEx, OKX, Binance, Bitget and Kraken all sell native TRX and withdraw it on the TRON network, for 1-3 TRX per withdrawal. Kraken is the usual choice for US residents, since Binance.com does not serve US customers.
Pick by how much you're moving:
- Small top-ups (under 20 TRX): Bybit or KuCoin. A 1 TRX withdrawal fee and a 1-2 TRX minimum let you pull out exactly what you need.
- Larger amounts: Binance has the deepest TRX/USDT market by volume on CoinMarketCap, so big orders move the price least.
- In the US: Kraken. Its spot market is cheaper than the instant buy button, which came out about 1.5% above market in Cryptoradar's 4 October comparison.
Best exchanges for TRX compared
The best exchange for TRX is the one with a low withdrawal fee and a minimum below the amount you plan to send. On a $10 purchase, a 0.10% trading fee costs one cent. A 3 TRX withdrawal fee costs $1.
| Exchange | TRX withdrawal fee | Min. withdrawal | Cost at $0.335 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bybit | 1 TRX | 1 TRX | $0.34 |
| KuCoin | 1 TRX | 2 TRX | $0.34 |
| MEXC | 1 TRX | 5 TRX | $0.34 |
| CoinEx | 1 TRX | 22 TRX | $0.34 |
| OKX | 1.2 TRX | 22 TRX | $0.40 |
| Binance | 1.5 TRX | 20 TRX | $0.50 |
| Bitget | 1.5 TRX | ~27 TRX | $0.50 |
| Kraken | 3 TRX | 20 TRX | $1.01 |
Sources: OKX's published withdrawal table and the withdrawalfees.com TRX tracker, both checked 4 October 2026. Exchanges change withdrawal fees without notice, so the amount on the withdrawal screen is the one you pay.
The minimum matters as much as the fee. If you only want 10 TRX in your wallet, CoinEx, OKX, Binance, Bitget and Kraken make you withdraw at least 20 TRX.
Three exchanges in the same data set charge far more: BitMart (16 TRX), AscendEX (15 TRX) and HitBTC (29.73 TRX). On a 30 TRX top-up, that's half your purchase gone before it reaches your wallet.
Cheapest place to buy TRX: For a small top-up, Bybit or KuCoin, because both charge 1 TRX to withdraw with a minimum of 1-2 TRX. For larger amounts, the withdrawal fees of the top exchanges differ by less than 1 TRX, so liquidity and your payment method matter more.
The network trap: Coinbase, Base and BEP20
TRX only reaches a TronLink, Trust Wallet or Ledger TRON account if it is withdrawn on the TRON network (sometimes labeled TRC20 or TRX). Several platforms hold TRX on other chains too.
- Coinbase. Coinbase lists TRX as not tradable. Since December 2025, TRX bridged to Base through LayerZero can be reached in the Base App via decentralized exchanges. That token sits at a
0x...address and cannot be sent to a TRONT...address without bridging it back. Coinbase also does not support USDT withdrawals on TRC-20. - Other networks on exchanges. Binance also withdraws TRX on Ethereum, and HTX on BNB Smart Chain, Ethereum, Solana and Base. The withdrawal screen asks you to pick a network, and picking the wrong one is the most common reason TRX "disappears."
- Address format check. A TRON address starts with
Tand has 34 characters. If the exchange accepts a0xaddress for your TRX withdrawal, you are on the wrong network.
Can I buy TRX on Coinbase? Not native TRX. Coinbase shows TRX as not tradable, and the version reachable through the Base App is a bridged token on Base. For TRX you can send to a TRON wallet, use Kraken in the US or any exchange in the table above elsewhere.
How to buy TRX and withdraw it to your wallet
To buy TRX on an exchange and move it to your own wallet takes 5 steps. TRON produces a block every 3 seconds, so the withdrawal itself is fast once the exchange sends it.
- Open and verify an account. Most exchanges ask for ID verification (KYC) before you can withdraw.
- Fund it. Deposit USDT if you already hold some on TRON, and you skip card fees entirely. Otherwise deposit fiat by bank transfer or card.
- Buy on the spot market. Use the TRX/USDT pair with a market or limit order. The "Buy crypto" or instant buy button is faster but usually priced above the spot market.
- Withdraw on the TRON network. Paste your
T...address, choose TRON (TRC20) as the network, and check the amount is above the minimum. Send a small test first if this is a new address. - Confirm on Tronscan. Search your address on tronscan.org and check that the TRX balance has arrived.
A brand-new TRON address is inactive until it receives its first TRX. The exchange's withdrawal activates it, and the activation fee is charged to the sender, so it doesn't come out of your amount. If you still need a wallet, our guide to the best TRON wallets compares the main options.
Card, P2P and swap services
You can buy TRX with a credit card without trading on an exchange, but you pay more for it. On a $500 buy, Cryptoradar's live comparison on 4 October 2026 put the all-in cost above market at:
| Platform | All-in cost above market |
|---|---|
| Kraken instant buy | 1.50% |
| Uphold | 2.54% |
| Gemini | 4.28% |
| ChangeHero (card) | 9.22% |
On the Binance spot market, a 0.10% trading fee plus a 1.5 TRX withdrawal comes to about $1 in fees on the same $500 purchase.
Buy TRX with credit card: Kraken and Binance accept cards, and wallets like Trust Wallet and MetaMask have built-in card onramps that deliver TRX straight to your TRON address. For a $10-20 top-up, the extra cost is cents and convenience wins. For larger amounts, fund by bank transfer or USDT and trade on the spot market.
Two other routes exist. Binance P2P lets you pay a local seller in your own currency where it is available. Swap services convert other crypto you already hold into TRX, and some of them work without an account.
How much TRX do you need?
Most TRON users need tens of TRX in the wallet, not thousands. TRX is the fee token: one standard USDT transfer burns 6.5 TRX when the wallet has no energy, and a transfer to an address that has never held USDT burns about 13.1 TRX.
| Monthly USDT transfers | TRX burned per month | At $0.335 per TRX |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 6.5 TRX | $2.18 |
| 5 | 32.5 TRX | $10.89 |
| 10 | 65 TRX | $21.78 |
| 30 | 195 TRX | $65.33 |
These figures use the 100 SUN energy price set by TRON governance in August 2025. Our breakdown of how TRON fees work covers where the 6.5 and 13.1 come from, and our guide to how much TRON energy you need sizes it for your own volume.
Buying TRX to burn is the most expensive way to pay those fees. Renting 65,000 energy for one hour costs 2.6-3.9 TRX, so a transfer that would burn 6.5 TRX costs 40-60% less. You can buy TRON energy for your next transfer and keep a few TRX in the wallet for bandwidth and new-address transfers. If the wallet holds no TRX at all, see how to send USDT TRC20 without TRX.
Staking only beats renting at volume: covering one USDT transfer per day takes about 7,027 TRX staked, roughly $2,350. If you hold that much TRX anyway, stake TRX for energy instead of letting it sit.
FAQ
Can I buy TRX on Coinbase?
No, not native TRX. Coinbase marks TRX as not tradable. The TRX reachable through the Base App is a token bridged to Base, which cannot be sent directly to a TRON T... address. US residents usually buy native TRX on Kraken instead.
Which exchange has the lowest TRX withdrawal fee?
Bybit, KuCoin, MEXC and CoinEx charge 1 TRX, the lowest TRX withdrawal fee in the 4 October 2026 data. Bybit also has the lowest minimum, 1 TRX. OKX charges 1.2 TRX, Binance and Bitget 1.5 TRX, and Kraken 3 TRX. Always confirm on the withdrawal screen.
Can I buy TRX without KYC?
Sometimes. Some swap services convert other crypto to TRX without an account, but they can still ask for ID on large or flagged transactions. Most centralized exchanges require KYC before you can withdraw.
How do I buy TRX with a credit card?
Use the card option on Kraken or Binance, or the card onramp built into Trust Wallet or MetaMask. Card and instant-buy prices run above the spot market: 1.5% to over 4% on a $500 buy in Cryptoradar's 4 October 2026 comparison.
How much TRX do I need to send USDT?
About 6.5 TRX per standard USDT transfer, or 13.1 TRX if the recipient has never held USDT, when your wallet has no energy. With rented energy the transfer needs little or no TRX burn, so a small buffer covers bandwidth and edge cases.
Is it cheaper to buy TRX or rent energy?
Renting energy is cheaper per transfer. A one-hour rental of 65,000 energy costs 2.6-3.9 TRX against a 6.5 TRX burn. Buying TRX to stake only pays off if you hold several thousand TRX and send USDT every day.
Which option fits you
If you live in the US, buy on Kraken's spot market and withdraw on the TRON network. The 3 TRX withdrawal fee is the highest in the table, but Coinbase is not an option for native TRX.
If you live elsewhere and need a small top-up, Bybit or KuCoin get 10-20 TRX into your wallet for a 1 TRX fee with no minimum problem. For larger purchases, Binance has the deepest market.
If you only want TRX to pay USDT fees, buy a small buffer and stop there. Each transfer costs less with rented energy than with a TRX burn, so the cheapest TRX is often the TRX you never buy. Check the live rate on TRONAgg's energy page before your next transfer.
